E Book Readers at F&F

For those of you who missed the weekend news and two features on electronic books and other new options available in bookstores, here is the link. KPAX-Electronic Book Readers in Western Montana

There are two videos available to watch.  Look for “Bookstores offer new options” after viewing “Electronic book readers come to Western Montana”  both are short!  Matt LaPalm from The Bookstore at UM talks about eBook readers and the F&F website for ordering.  Barbara Theroux from Fact & Fiction Downtown talks about the importance of reading and new technologies available.

The big news is that eBook readers are now on sale at both Fact & Fiction locations.  Look for Sony PRS 600 and PRS 300 models.  The Sony PRS 300 is a pocket edition, very slim in design and easy to use.  The Sony PRS 600 features a touch screen and offers a few fun features for downloading photos and music as well as books.  This is the model I plan to obtain.

Yes, I see the need to have an eBook reader.  Several publishers will be making advance copies of publications available as eBooks, copies that are subscribed for and readable only until publication date.  Not sure I am 100% thrilled with the concept, but I can understand the economics.  One big problem will be finding time to read things before they disappear from the reader!
