NEW POETS OF THE AMERICAN WEST edited by Lowell Jaeger

This diverse anthology features 250 contemporary poets from the eleven western states.  In more than 450 entries, including poems in English, Spanish, Navajo, Salish, Assiniboine, and Dakota languages, we hear from Native Americans and first-generation immigrants, from ranchers and city dwellers, from poet-teachers and street-poets, and more.  Aside from being a great collection, the indexes in the back of the anthology give additional references: an extensive list of books by the poets in the anthology; lists of the publishers, featuring address and websites; poetry sites on the internet; and an index of all authors and poem titles.  In the introduction, editor Lowell Jaeger says, “It’s my fondest hope that many readers who are unfamiliar with poetry will open these pages and discover a lasting appreciation for the wonders of words.”  These pages guide you from state to state, but give you much to be proud of, much to think about, and many words to return to again and again.
